CHIMIE ET CRISTALLOCHIMIE DES MATERIAUX

Institut Charles Gerhardt - UMR 5253

The C2M team studies both solid phases for mainly piezoelectric and thermoelectric applications. Based on its expertise in solid state chemistry and in collaboration with physicists, the main research areas that will be investigated are as follows :

- Synthesis of oxides, piezoelectric single crystals, new “ferroelectric” phases, thermoelectric polycrystals and complex intermetallic phases

- Use of the parameters pressure/stress, temperature, electric field and structural and chemical defects to study/modify and/or control the physical properties (thermoelectricity, piezoelectricity…)

- Engineering of materials by using experimental and theoretical approaches of phase diagrams. Control of microstructure development.

This work is supported by the ANR (Piezocrist, Crystaltex, Respect, Present, p-Nano Nanomicrostil), industrial and public contracts (DGA, CEA, CNES, St Gobain, Atmel, Renoter FUI, Volvo Powertrucks, EADS) and in the framework of the collaboration agreement UM2, CNRS-ASTRIUM in wich the group is a founding member. The group, which has a strong high-pressure activity, is also a founding member of the group STEP (Science et Technologie des hautes pressions de Montpellier)
